War Poetry Contest: Submit by Mail

Now in its seventh year, this contest seeks today's best poems on the theme of war. We will award $5,000 in prizes. This page tells you how to enter by mail. Click here to read winning entries from the past.

Submission Period
Entries accepted November 15, 2007 - May 31, 2008 (postmark dates)

Prizes
First Prize, $2,000 cash and publication on WinningWriters.com (over one million page views per year)
Second Prize, $1,200 cash and publication on WinningWriters.com
Third Prize, $600 cash and publication on WinningWriters.com
Twelve Honorable Mentions, $100 cash each and publication on WinningWriters.com

The reading fee is $15. This covers your submission of 1-3 original, unpublished poems. Their combined length should not exceed 500 lines. Contestants may enter once per year.

Manuscripts will not be returned. Please keep a copy of your submission.

To enter by mail, please include a cover sheet with your entry. It should note your name, address, phone number, email address (if you have one) and the titles of your poems. Please omit your name from the poem pages themselves. Your name should not appear on the front or back of any page except your cover sheet.

Entries should be typed or printed by computer. We prefer white, letter-size paper. The 12-point font size is ideal. Please avoid using fancy, hard-to-read typefaces. Include a check or money order for $15 payable to Winning Writers. Include a stamped postcard with your address on it if you would like confirmation that your entry was received. Please clip everything together (no staples) and mail your entry to:
