AN APRIL LOVE SONG FOR YOU

Let us show them, you and I,
A phthalo-blue elephant eye fried
With rumpled buckwheat
Gloaming and tweet-tweeting,
A spring trio between bells
And zinfandel, a jezebel of caramels

Let us show them a pimpernel
Whose stem has a hard red lenticel
     Du bist eine kleine vogel
     Ein Schlemiel du Tuscany
And show them as well our spry
Erotic choreography. O why
Not, my dear, while still we are fleet
With perfumed pubic hair on silken sheets

April will send us green rays of sun
Let us show them how to un-
Peel their wintered desires
     too-wit, too-hoo,
In my womb
Spermatozoa come and croon
About a dead Italian painter
     cuckoo-cuckoo

As the great Philoctetus claimed
Let us save the forest's mighty trees
The mirthful earth and seas
That roll up like trousers, like the fair
Acrisius let us eat organic peaches
In the drowsy air that soon will be too hot
To handle, like a boiling pot
Of astrodomes.
