This foundation offers the biennial Thatcher Hoffman Smith Prize of $40,000 for a visionary creative work in process. Poet Jeffery Bahr reveals how many submissions get published in various American literary journals. See statistics on acceptance rates and response times. The most competitive magazine is The Atlantic, which publishes about 50 of the 75,000 unsolicited submissions it receives each year.
